“The golf course is our most important asset and therefore it is crucial to maintaining the high standard of our course that we get advice from a professional golf course architect when planning changes to the course design. Our experience bears this out with the key upgrades that have taken place at Lanark GC in the past 5 years. We would always recommend professional advice for such changes. “  George Cuthill - Lanark GC Club Manager

Having employed a Golf Course Architect (Ronnie Lumsden) for our new Range and Short Game Area I’d have no hesitation in recommending his services to other golf clubs. As amateurs we all have an idea what we are looking for but the GCA is the man that pulls these ideas together into an achievable project.  The expertise they bring in construction, project management and agronomy is invaluable to delivering a successful facility.” Stephen Carruthers - Director of Golf at Pitlochry GC

"There are major benefits in using a professional GCA, notably :-

.... by using a qualified GCA, it (the Club) has still been able to carry out regular small course improvements. The architect has been able to manage this work within the financial capabilities and club staff to carry out the work." - Bernard Flockhart ex Baberton Club Manager and current Harburn Council member.

"At Kirkintilloch Golf Club, we determined that, in line with a modernisation of our management practices, we should always seek the guidance of professional expertise before finalising our strategic plans for development and improvement to our facilities. This has proven to be particularly beneficial to the development of our golf course. Four years ago we enlisted the services of Ronnie Lumsden to provide a full hole by hole assessment of our course along with a full agronomy report. Since then, we have gradually developed the course in line with the recommendations made and have seen our course steadily improve in both quality and character attracting widespread praise from both members and visitors. At a time when many golf clubs are struggling to attract members, we see this as a key factor in the future wellbeing of our club."  Tom Cummings - Kirkintilloch Secretary.

I qualified with a Professional Diploma in Golf Course Architecture in 1998 and since then I have advised a number of golf clubs in Scotland on making improvements to their courses. I have been lecturing in Golf Course Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art since the inception of the MSc Degree course in 2000. I have qualifications in Golf Course Management and I worked and studied for a year at Gleneagles in Perthshire.

I have provided numerous course design appraisals, designs for new courses, new holes, new greens and programmes for re-locating and re-modelling bunkers. I have also supervised the construction and implementation of new design features. My knowledge of agronomic requirements means that I can also advise on constructions, grasses and surface preparation as well as maintenance on all types of surfaces. I can advise on the best approach to programming the work, the likely timescales and costs and the construction and Planning requirements as well as providing designs and specifications for the works.
